Replaying Final Fantasy 12. It is so damn good.

It’s so disappointing how FF13 (and its unfortunate sequel) turned out. Everything about FF12 feels so polished, there are so many tiny details and things that make you feel like it was made by people who really cared. FF13 has a nonsensical story, bland characters, bland art direction, and so much more.

This post is going to get reblogged with a really “witty” and “biting” gif by that “Shit FF Fans Say” blog, and so be it. Just because I like some Final Fantasy games, it doesn’t mean I have to like them all. I’m a fan of good, well designed videogames. Final Fantasy XIII is not one. I’m cynical and unexcited for FF13-3 because I don’t have any reason to feel otherwise. FF13-2 was better than FF13, but not by enough. The series is a shadow of what it used to be, of what it could be. It’s just a pretty, boring adventure game with some light RPG elements now. It’s not the series it used to be, and it’s not the series I used to love.

Bring it back with FFvs13, Square-Enix. Make a fucking Final Fantasy game.

Christ this is a fantastic game. If you haven’t played it I really recommend it. It’s on the 3DS eShop and everything.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy hits iPhone, iPad today

No big surprise here, the beloved 3DS rhythm game is out for iOS devices today (New Zealand shop, U.S. link incoming). Also unsurprising: in-app purchases are insane in the membrane, crazy insane, got no brain.

The app is free to download with two songs (“One Winged Angel” and “Zanarkand”), but then you’ll spend $0.99 on each song, $2.99 on each song bundle for the numbered Final Fantasy games, and $1.99 on each character. Buying all of the content will set you back around $150. Oh, and this mobile edition lacks the EMS feature that lets you play extended versions for a number of songs.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy for 3DS is currently $30 at Amazon (doesn’t include DLC packs).

This is pretty neat but as someone who has put a dozen hours into the 3DS version (not buying any DLC), I really recommend people go with that instead of this, for pricing reasons alone it’s a better package.

Poster tribute to Mega Drive (Sega Genesis).

MD001 Poster has been designed by Dan Clarke as a homage to the japanese Mega Drive Scene. Limited edition, silkscreen print on japanese quality paper. A fine piece and a great interaction between two of our favourite things: graphic design and video games.

Buy it at Megadrive.me store.

More GBA titles coming to 3DS Virtual Console? That’s what Nintendo of Australia site appears to suggest, showing GBA as a supported platform on its Virtual Console page, along with a priced listing for Dr. Mario. Given the effort needed to put together the pages, this doesn’t look like a slip-up.

So far, the only 3DS owners who’ve been able to play GBA titles are us Ambassador Certificate holders. But we’ve only had access to a limited set of games, so it will be nice to get more releases of GBA classics (e.g. Advance Wars).

Oh, and more eShop news out of Australia: Liberation Maiden, the Guild01 action game designed by Goichi Suda, has been rated by the country’s classification board, suggesting that it will see a standalone digital release, instead of shipping in a retail collection.

Excellent.

I think Rare have completely fucked themselves. And - it isn’t their fault; it’s Microsoft’s fault. They [Microsoft] have completely ruined that company, and it makes me cry every day of my life.

Please tell me this will be a CGI movie and not a live action.
